Things to do when you have a Dental Emergency
Whenever a dental emergency happens, it’s important to know what to do. Otherwise you could lose your tooth, or be left with much larger bill and treatment than you want.
Here are the top 3 dental emergencies and how you should treat them before you visit us
Broken, cracked or chipped tooth:
Your tooth can break, crack, or get chipped while biting into a hard piece of candy, chewing solid foods, or from an injury. Most of the time, a chipped tooth can be fixed with a tooth filling. Same with some cracks…if you get it looked at asap. For bigger issues, we can always put on a tooth crown. Not much you can do here except get in asap before the chip or crack spreads. If it’s larger break, try to keep the piece that broke, we might be able to bond it back!
Toothache or pain:
Pain in your gums or tooth can be annoying and make you feel miserable. Or it can be so bad, it keeps you up at night. This pain can occur for many reasons, most noticeably being trauma to the mouth (we will deal with infection next). Either way, if you experience these, you must immediately consult your dentist. Get in touch with Lifetime Dental right away for same day emergencies.
Tooth abscess:
An abscess is an infection that occurs around the root of your tooth or at times in between your teeth and gums. If left untreated, it can spread to other areas of your body, potentially leading to severe complications. If you notice an abscess in your mouth, or have pain that keeps you up at night, consult your dentist at once. Until then, you can rinse your mouth with a saltwater solution to help control bacteria and relieve some pain.
