Restorative Dentistry in Brantford

Whether your teeth are damaged or missing due to decay, injury or another cause, restorative dentistry can give you back the smile and function you deserve. Left untreated, even small issues tend to grow larger over time, much like a small crack in a windshield that slowly spreads with every bump in the road. Treating problems early helps prevent bigger issues down the line, including eating and speaking difficulties.

Signs You May Need Restorative Treatment

A cavity or visible decay A cracked, chipped or fractured tooth A large or failing filling Tooth sensitivity or discomfort while chewing A discolored or misshapen tooth affecting your bite or appearance

If any of these sound familiar, a consultation with Dr. Kim is the best next step to determine the right treatment for your specific situation.

Your Restorative Treatment Options

Tooth Colored Fillings

Made of a tooth colored resin material, our fillings are designed to match your existing teeth, giving you a smile that looks clean and natural while repairing cavities or minor cracks.

Inlays and Onlays

For cavities too large for a standard filling but not large enough to require a full crown, an inlay or onlay may be recommended. This custom made restoration is created in a dental laboratory and fitted during a second visit, offering a durable, precisely fitted solution.

Crowns and Bridges

For more extensive damage or missing teeth, crowns and bridges provide a strong, natural looking solution. Learn more on our dedicated crowns and bridges page.

Root Canal Treatment

When decay or infection reaches the inner part of a tooth, root canal treatment can save the tooth and relieve pain. Learn more on our dedicated root canal page.

Dentures

For patients missing several or all of their natural teeth, dentures offer a comfortable, natural looking replacement option. Learn more on our dedicated dentures page.

A Precise, Personalized Approach

Every restorative case is different, which is why a consultation between you and Dr. Kim will help determine the treatment that is best suited to your unique situation, your overall health and your personal preference. Dr. Kim also uses Microscope Assisted Dentistry to support a level of precision that helps restorations fit comfortably and last longer, a technique not commonly used by other dental offices in the area.

I’ve been with Dr. Kim for 25 years. He does great work and has actually restored my teeth completely over the years of service. My only suggestion is to have a better understanding of how my benefits are being utilized for each procedure. That information would alert me as to the extent of my coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I know if I need a filling or a crown?

It depends on the extent of the damage. Smaller cavities are typically treated with a filling, while more extensive damage may require a crown or inlay. Dr. Kim can determine the right option after an exam.

2. Do tooth colored fillings look natural?

Yes. Our fillings are made from a tooth colored resin material designed to blend naturally with your existing teeth.

3. What is the difference between an inlay, an onlay and a filling?

A filling is placed directly into the tooth in one visit. An inlay or onlay is custom made in a lab and fitted during a second visit, used when a cavity is too large for a standard filling but does not require a full crown.

4. How long do fillings last?

Fillings do not last forever and can wear down or crack over time. Dr. Kim will monitor the condition of your fillings during regular checkups and recommend replacement if needed.

5. Is restorative treatment painful?

Local freezing is used to keep you comfortable throughout most restorative procedures.

6. What happens if I ignore a cracked or damaged tooth?

Small problems tend to worsen over time and can eventually require more extensive treatment, such as a root canal or extraction. Addressing issues early is generally simpler and more comfortable.
